Dave Hickey The Good Ennui

Dave Hickey The Good Ennui

I have to disagree strongly with his assessment of the academia in art. He alludes that an art professor cannot be innovative or teach innovation anymore that the professor's own generation. This is like saying a writting teacher cannot teach someone to write to a new generation or a doctor cannot teach a medical student to be innovative and come up with anything new. Pure bull corn. Though cow, cowing to elitism in art, what he has to say is worth a listen. I have my reservations to believing any nearly art historian or critic entirely.

Changes

I am finishing up the work I have been doing over the past few years purely using the theme of road debris ASAP, so look for changes coming 2010. I need to post some 2009 work on my website soon as well.

Stopping Production for the Art Car Museum Installation

This weekend I will be preparing work to ship to the Art Car Museum for the next exhibition opening Feb 21, 2009, 7-10pm. While I have had a good week of painting--finishing one and working on the background of 5 others--I will need to stop the studio work so I can begin installation next week at the museum. At the opening I will work with at least two others painting an art car live during the opening. Also, I hope to make a time lapse video an installation on the wall at the art car museum if I can. I hope to see you there.

Resolution for the New Year

1. Win a five dollar bet with my best friend that I can lose my gut by the end of the year.
2. Have more fun.
3. Do a color series of paintings.
4. Work on a series of drawings on panel.
5. Work on a series of free standing sculptures.
6. Camp out more often.

New Year New Blog

Last May I graduated with an MFA in Painting and Drawing. During my MFA show I created a blog in an effort to document the process. Quite frankly it did not work. This is why I think that is: I tried to write. Clearly I am not a writer or I would be getting an MA in Journalism or Art History (two more years of school might be awesome in this economy). Solution: take pictures of the studio and the work in progress. Then keep all the writing short and simple.
