2009 Commentaries

I am dying to finish up two 2009-2010 paintings, the last of my series of oil paintings for 2009. It is nice to finish up one body of work and move on to another. As you can imagine this has been a time for me to reflect on the past, understand what I like and what I want to change and focus on a new direction.

I love that this year I have brought more color into the 2-d work. However, these oil paintings have taken more time than I thought they would. This year I am planning to break some of my conventions, work with acrylic and hard edge painting again for one. Also make work that encompasses the East side of Houston (chemical plants, etc), more narrative parts of my life and more of the flat and more abstract than the past few years.

Ever Growing Palette 1

Randomly I decided not to clean off the sides of my palette box, just to see what it would look like after a while, so hence this is post 1.

Masquerade 2009

Hilary Scullane did the honor of filming this installation of Masquerade, paper and wheat paste at the Kingwood Art Gallery Faculty Exhibition, 2009. Enjoy!

Dave Hickey The Good Ennui

Dave Hickey The Good Ennui

I have to disagree strongly with his assessment of the academia in art. He alludes that an art professor cannot be innovative or teach innovation anymore that the professor's own generation. This is like saying a writting teacher cannot teach someone to write to a new generation or a doctor cannot teach a medical student to be innovative and come up with anything new. Pure bull corn. Though cow, cowing to elitism in art, what he has to say is worth a listen. I have my reservations to believing any nearly art historian or critic entirely.

Changes

I am finishing up the work I have been doing over the past few years purely using the theme of road debris ASAP, so look for changes coming 2010. I need to post some 2009 work on my website soon as well.
